June 26, 2016 - DLSU Students at Greenbriar West VA Need Help!

Dear Fellow Lasallians,
Seven of the 55 students on OJT at Greenbriar in West Virginia are gravely affected by the heavy flooding in West Virginia.  Click on this 7 DLSU Students Flooded in West VA for more info.  The house that they were staying in was swept away by the flood and they have nothing left except the clothes that they are wearing.  Per information from Consul General Emil Fernandez of the Philippine Embassy, they need the following basic items:
  • canned goods
  • bottled water
  • toiletries
  • shoes
  • used clothing in good condition
  • kitchen knives
  • pillows
  • bed blankets and covers
Please send these donations to the residence of Leony Gimeno at 8101 Chars Landing Court, Springfield VA 22153 (Home Phone 703-455-6059 or Leony's Cell 571-278-4834) from today until tomorrow evening, Monday, June 27th.

If you can donate cash, it would be better so they will have the flexibility to buy the basic items that they need.  Kindly click on the donations link above.  Any amount that you can give will be greatly appreciated.

All donations that we will receive in cash and in kind will be delivered to the Philippine Embassy on Tuesday morning c/o Consul General Emil Fernandez.  Representatives from the Embassy will be going to see the affected DLSU students as soon as the highways are declared passable by the State of West VA, tentatively scheduled on Tuesday.

Once again, we knock on the hearts of LSPAA members to help fellow Lasallians.  You have never failed to wave that shield of green and white in times of crisis!  ANIMO heart!

Yours in St. La Salle!

  1. Just an update, we were able to raise $700 in the one-day fundraising drive and sent cash to the students yesterday ($100 each student) together with bottled water, cup noodles, blankets, pillows, toiletries through the Philippine Embassy staff who drove to Greenbrier yesterday to deliver all the goods that they have collected and to help the students with their passports and visas which were all swept away by the floods. We thank our members and friends who are always ready to help in times of crisis. Special thanks also to a kind-hearted Lasallian who, without waiting for an organized effort, took the initiative to send another $700 check directly to the students and contacted the only open restaurant in the Greenbrier area on Sunday to deliver food to the affected students. She offered to pay for the food but the other kind-hearted lady in the restaurant, after learning what happened, did not accept the payment. God bless their hearts!

On July 15, we are visiting the students at Greenbrier together with Bro. Ray Suplido (DLSU President), Derrick Yu (DLSAA President), Boy Kalaw (DLSAA Treasurer) and Edwin Reyes (DLSU Alumni Relations Director). They are visiting us here in Metro DC area to meet as many members as possible from July 14-16. Once we have finalized the 2-1/2 days itinerary, we will broadcast the schedule so you can choose which day or event would you be available to meet and greet the DLSU-Manila visitors.
